As part of its growth strategy, the RAFI Group is investing massively in its facility in Berg. Tens of millions of euros will go into energy-saving building refurbishments and production capacity expansion. Among the latest expansion activities in the HMI standard product segment is the commissioning of a new automated production plant. This is RAFI’s response to the consistently high demand for its RACON tactile switches.

Because of their high switching reliability, long operating life, and distinctive tactility, the key switches from the RACON 8 and RACON 12 series are established as practically the standard in many industries. With the new automatic production plant, RAFI is now able to increase its production capacities for RACON tactile switches from some 35 million to 60 million units per year. To ensure high quality standards, the system uses state-of-the-art robot, camera and servo technologies. Vision systems continually monitor the process steps and all key switches undergo exhaustive testing including determination of the force-path characteristic curves. The finished products are laser-tagged for traceability and packed by robot.
“The RACON series is a classic element in our large key switch and control switch range,” explains Carmen Köberle. “This production modernization not only guarantees we can meet increasing demand, but also consolidates our position as the leading manufacturer of electro-mechanical control components.” The RACON 8 and RACON 12 S series are available with various operating forces. They also come in THT versions with internal or external contacts and SMT versions suitable for all relevant soldering processes. RAFI also offers special solutions such as RACON 12 i models capable of illumination and RACON 12 V key switches with vertical adapters for application on PC plug-in cards. Currently the company is developing further versions with new technical capabilities.
